Public Schools
McKinney ISD is located in Collin County, and primarily serves students in the city of McKinney. MISD also serves students in parts of New Hope, Allen, Fairview, Princeton, and Lowry Crossing. One of the fastest-growing school districts in Texas, McKinney ISD currently enrolls more than 24,500 students in 20 elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools, two alternative campuses, and one early childhood education center. Including administration and support, MISD maintains 68 facilities covering more than 4 million square feet on 603 acres of grounds.

Since offering its first classes at area high schools in 1985, Collin College has expanded to serve about 53,000 credit and continuing education students each year. The only public college in the county, the college offers more than 100 degrees and certificates in a wide range of disciplines.

Parks and Recreation
McKinney has many parks and hike and bike trails available for fitness and enjoyment, and more are planned. It’s just another way McKinney is Unique by Nature.
The McKinney Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to creating a solid sense of community for McKinney residents. We strive to enhance the quality of life in McKinney by offering unique parks, memorable special events, and diverse recreational programs.
Safe City
The McKinney Police Department is a full-service municipal police agency that is authorized 202 sworn officer positions and 59 non-sworn civilian positions. Detention services are contracted with the Collin County Sheriff’s Office located a mile from the Public Safety Building.
On June 12, 2014, the McKinney Police Department received the award of “Re-Recognition Status” from the Texas Police Chiefs Association Law Enforcement Recognition Program. The Recognition Program evaluates a police department’s compliance with over 165 Best Business Practices for Texas Law Enforcement. These Best Practices cover all aspects of law enforcement operations including use of force, protection of citizen rights, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management, and patrol and investigative operations.
