McKinney Economic Development Corporation Welcomes Miguel Esparza as Project Manager

The McKinney Economic Development Corporation welcomed Miguel Esparza as Project Manager on July 14, 2021. Miguel comes to this new role with a great deal of experience and passion. Prior to working with McKinney Economic Development Corporation, Miguel was a Financial Analyst with the City of Denton.

We wanted to take the time to get to know him a little better, please see below for a quick question and answer with Miguel Esparza, our new Project Manager.

Where did you grow up?

I was born, raised and educated in Dallas but as a teenager I also spent my summers surrounded by cornfields in Central Illinois.

Where did you go to school?

I went to college at Southern Methodist University, double majoring in Public Policy and Spanish. I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in public administration from the University of North Texas and set to graduate this year.

Tell us about your prior work experience?

Most recently I spent my last two years at the City of Denton as a Financial Analyst focusing on internal service funds and general fund departments. Additionally, I was a Project Control Specialist in the Engineering department focusing on projects within the Capital Improvement Plan.

What makes you excited to be a part of the new team/role?

Although I come from a more traditional government role, economic development has been my favorite part of my local government experiences. I am very excited to learn from this group of high achieving economic development professionals here in McKinney. Having previously worked in project management I look forward to continuing my professional growth as well as joining the great synergy that already exists between staff!

What do you hope to accomplish in your new role at McKinney Economic Development Corporation?

One of my initial goals is going to be aiding the executive leadership team in competing for and converting large economic development projects. In addition to that I love focusing on the smaller projects that help build and retain the character of McKinney as not only a great place to live but also work and play! The Innovation Fund is an amazing program that I would never have thought to see a municipal development organization initiate and champion, so I look forward to helping grow the local innovation economy. An everyday goal of mine to provide great customer service; both to the citizens we serve as well as the companies/organizations that inquire towards becoming a part of Unique McKinney!

Tell us something fun about yourself?

I love being active whether it’s hiking, biking, martial arts or picking up new hobbies like golf!
