McKinney-based SaaS Company Blockit® Expands – MEDC’s Innovation Fund Fuels Growth

(McKINNEY, TEXAS) Blockit®, a health tech company that enables patient acquisition and retention for healthcare organizations and their networks, recently announced that it will be expanding its headquarters in McKinney. The expansion includes the creation of 18 new, highly technical software engineering jobs over the next three years, bringing their total number of employees to 31. The announcement comes after the company recently received major recognition by winning D CEO’s and Dallas Innovates’ 2020 Innovation Award.

“We have found few barriers to building our company in McKinney,” said Jake McCarley, CEO of Blockit. “Our office is in a unique area, different than your traditional glass box. The city and the environment have been positive, we benefit from the growth of our industry here and we think tech companies will continue to flock to McKinney.”

Blockit’s platform focuses on simplifying healthcare processes to improve patient access. The company recently received a grant from McKinney Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) Innovation Fund, which launched in January. The fund will help the software as a service (SaaS) company with their expansion goals by enabling upfront investment in growth that accelerates a path to sustainability and long-term value for the community.

“This fund is the real deal. It is providing a solution specific to startup scalability that most current economic incentives do not,” said McCarley. “The MEDC team also knows the lifecycle of a startup and that shows in this new incentive program.”

MEDC’s Innovation Fund is designed to grow with the company as they scale, it’s focused on supplementing growth during the timeliest need in the startup lifecycle, seed or few customers, to Series A and or a larger customer base

“This fund is specific to targeted outcomes and business verticals, we’re creating an ecosystem and building the framework for our innovation corridor through this fund,” said Danny Chavez, Senior Vice President at MEDC.

Blockit has chosen to expand their headquarters at the Cotton Mill (610 Elm St, McKinney, TX 75069) near downtown McKinney, a location that has a long track record of being a hub for startups, with the likes of Bossfight Entertainment and Words with Friends as past tenants.

“We know we have a special opportunity here to create one of the most unique districts in Texas,” said Terry Casey, owner of the McKinney Cotton Mill. “We’re working on some major developments that will fuel the growth of innovative companies big and small.”
