MEDC’s Innovation Fund Continues to Fuel Growth
CourMed, an innovative technology company providing enterprise software and concierge delivery service, announced it would be expanding its headquarters in McKinney. The company plans to create 22 new high-tech jobs over the next three years with a grant from the McKinney Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) Innovation Fund.
“The Innovation Fund will allow CourMed to expand service delivery to meet growing demand in North Texas and scale to additional markets in Florida, Arizona, California and Alabama this year,” said Founder and CEO Derrick L. Miles.
The announcement comes after CourMed was recently named to Capital Factory’s VIP Accelerator to help raise their next round of funding. The company has also been highlighted as one of the ‘World’s Best Startups’ by Plug and Play and chosen by Microsoft for Startups to receive additional technical, business, and sales support to scale services nationwide. Interest in CourMed has increased significantly from features in numerous media outlets, including D CEO Magazine, Pharmacy Times, and NBC DFW, to name a few.
CourMed’s technology is relevant during the pandemic because of public interest to stay home and stay healthy. Their enterprise software is unique because it makes it easier and safer to access healthcare items without leaving the comfort of home, further preventing the spread of COVID-19.
“McKinney has provided a great launchpad for our operations, and we have experienced significant success here. As a result, we are allowing all McKinney residents and residents of Collin County to sign up for our 5-Star rated service. In these uncertain times, CourMed is encouraged to do our part to help keep residents home and healthy. Concierge delivery of prescriptions and other wellness items is truly a game-changer for the industry,” said Miles.
Their software as a service (SaaS) platform is advantageous for patients, customers, pharmacies, and doctors. CourMed partners with physicians and a network of over 20,000 independent pharmacies to assist with the delivery of their patients’ healthcare needs. “It is fairly simple to sign up for CourMed. The physician will ask the patient if they are interested in the free delivery of medication or healthcare items; CourMed takes it from there. We identify the independent pharmacy that will fill the prescription, coordinate the pick-up and delivery with our reliable couriers, and send SMS status updates on the delivery,” said Miles.
MEDC’s Innovation Fund was created with startups like CourMed in mind. The mission is to spur and accelerate innovation-focused companies’ growth at various levels of revenue and funding stages during the startup life cycle. It’s designed to grow with the company as it scales, supplementing growth during the timeliest need in the startup lifecycle, seed or few customers, to Series A and or a more extensive customer base.

CourMed will temporarily expand its offices at Craig Ranch Corporate Center; an area that has become a magnet for corporate investment and is home to the headquarters for Independent Financial and SRS Distribution, as well as innovative startups like Invene, who recently opened headquarters around Craig Ranch.
