Zero-cost facility rental platform already operating in 23 states; MEDC investment accelerates national expansion

McKINNEY, Texas – The McKinney Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) today announced the addition of PracticePlan to the McKinney Innovation Fund, the city’s portfolio of high-growth technology companies. PracticePlan was selected as one of seven companies from a pool of roughly 300 applicants. The investment positions McKinney as a launchpad for the company’s next phase of growth as it scales a platform that helps K-12 districts, colleges, churches, and municipalities turn underused gyms, fields, auditoriums, stadiums, and event spaces into managed, revenue-generating assets.

Across the country, public facilities sit empty on nights, weekends, and summers while the districts and organizations that own them face tightening budgets. The process of renting those spaces – fielding phone calls, chasing insurance certificates, routing paper approvals, collecting checks – is manual enough that many administrators simply don’t bother. PracticePlan was built to eliminate that friction.

The platform centralizes every step of facility rental management in a single system: online reservations, multi-level approval workflows, automated insurance verification, integrated payment processing, and real-time calendar sync with Google, Outlook, and other tools that automatically block internal events. Partners pay nothing to use the platform. PracticePlan earns revenue only when a reservation is confirmed, aligning its incentives directly with the facilities it serves.

“PracticePlan represents the kind of practical innovation we look for – real technology solving a real operational problem at scale,” said Michael Kowski, President and CEO of the McKinney Economic Development Corporation. “Whether it’s a school district, a church, or a private venue, organizations across Texas are looking for ways to increase efficiency and put their facilities to work. PracticePlan gives them a straightforward way to do that, and we’re proud to support the company’s growth from right here in McKinney.”

The company has gained traction quickly among Texas districts and has expanded into 23 states nationwide. At Kaufman ISD, Dr. Jeff Roberts, Assistant Superintendent, called PracticePlan a “game changer” for district efficiency and facility revenue. Districts using the platform report reduced administrative workload, faster approvals, and new income streams from spaces that previously sat unused.

“Every community has facilities that could be working harder for the people it serves,” said John Brochu, founder of PracticePlan. “We built this platform because administrators and facility managers shouldn’t have to choose between managing rentals and focusing on their core mission. The McKinney Innovation Fund gives us the support and visibility to bring this solution to more organizations – starting in Texas and expanding nationally.”

As part of the McKinney Innovation Fund portfolio, PracticePlan gains access to strategic resources, mentorship, and a broader innovation ecosystem designed to accelerate market-ready companies. The addition reinforces McKinney’s growing reputation as a hub for applied technology that serves public institutions.
